We are a Chartered club with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), and a registered non-profit organization. We have been promoting the rabbit fancy in Alberta for over 75 years.
SARBA was established in February, 1944, under the name The Alberta Rabbit and Cavy Breeders Association. The name was changed in 1982 when the Cavy (Guinea Pig) breeders formed their own association.
SARBA aims to provide an interesting and fun club while remaining dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the domestic rabbit industry, by showcasing a variety of breeds for the enjoyment and education of exhibitors, and those interested in learning about rabbits.
We try to host at least one ARBA sanctioned show each year, and provide displays to showcase a variety of breeds of rabbits. Over the years SARBA has been involved in various projects, including hosting the ARBA show and convention in 1969 with the motto “Cross the Line in ‘69”. It was a well attended event for its time, with about 3000 rabbits entered. It was also the first, and only time that the show was held outside of the United States.
Our membership is open to anyone interested in rabbits. It doesn’t matter if you have one beloved pet, run a large scale rabbitry, or find yourself somewhere in between, we welcome you and can’t wait to get to know you.
